AI startups now capture 70% of global venture capital funding amounting to approximately $510 billion. Industry analysts project sustained growth with no signs of deceleration.
Against this backdrop, BestBrokers has released a recent report exploring the world of private businesses valued at US$1 billion or more, known as unicorns.

For this report, the team at BestBrokers analysed the Crunchbase Unicorn Board’s list of private startups. All players in the list had a valuation of at least US$1 billion, or the so-called ‘unicorns’.

Data was also aggregated from PitchBook and several other sources on the largest private company funding rounds and company valuations throughout 2025 and 2026. The full dataset used is available on Google Drive via this link.

AI is changing the economics of building a startup
‘By allowing a small team to handle an entire department’s workload, AI is effectively changing the economics of building a startup. This gives founders the ability to go further with less capital, and it plays a big part in the reason why AI companies are hitting billion dollar valuations so fast.
As a result, investors are placing increasingly larger bets on the startups that seem more likely to deliver, often without an actual product to show for it. The next few years will show whether AI has genuinely created a new breed of highly productive startups or simply made it much cheaper to create a lot more companies competing for the same customers.’
